Thanks Ronnie. I have multiple next hop addresses. However, only one is
installed at a time. I want if that is unavailable, next next hop should
be taken care automatically.
I am not looking for any load sharing. Also, recursive option is not
available in Cat6509 IOS that I am using.

The first next hop IP listed will be used unless it's unreachable. If
you are trying to achieve load sharing, then I believe that you need
to use set ip next-hop recursive. That way a recursive lookup is done
on the next hop that's not directly connected, and assuming that you
have multiple equal cost paths, CEF will load share over them.
