RE: throughput query on cisco 3845

I think there are too many variables to just come up with a number. But
Cisco positions this box as a wire-speed router in the >WAN domain< and
specifically at "1 x DS3." I've seen inside sales literature that
specifically cautions against positioning anything from the ISR series as L3
LAN switches or routers. So it comes down to whether or not you can live
with the risk that Cisco will laugh at you if you call TAC to complain that
your brand new 3845 is choking on n x 100 Mbps of throughput. Your own
unique and specific traffic patterns may well allow for just such a thing,
but that's simply not where Cisco has the box positioned in the marketplace.
Classic YMMV scenario...

What does a bug in specific code have to do with throughput on that
platform?

I've pushed more traffic than that (non-encrypted) on 3845s.

Only hooking up a DS3 to a 3845 is really good for your partner and not much
else.

The 3845 is faster than an NPE-400. I'm pushing 100mbps on a NPE-400 right
now without any problems. And, not peak traffic load. And, 2 full BGP
feeds.

256mbps of throughput on a 3845??? not likely.

you shouldn't put more than a ds-3 to a 3800. ~50mps is the best the router
can do wire rate...

i've crashed a 3845 pushing ~65mbps (w/encryption) and i could reproduce the
crash on demand using a traffic generator.
