Hi Mike,
I've come across a problem a few times also when configuring the commands
you've shown below for RIP authentication, after configuring authentication on
the interface I don't receive any routes and debugging ip rip shows an
authentication error is occurring.
I've found if I reapply the 'ip rip authentication key-chain (name)' under the
interface this solves the problem (I have checked for typo's and blank space
many times so I don't think this is my fault). It looks like the preferred
order might be;
1. Configure Key chain
2. apply "ip rip authentication mode (mode)"
3. apply "ip rip authentication key-chain (name)"

Subject: Eigrp and Rip Authentiction order.
Group,
Is there a recommend order to apply authentication for Eigrp or Rip. I
know how to do it just wanted to know if there's a "recommend" order.
ex.
1. Configure Key chain.
2. apply "ip rip authentication key-chain (name)
3. apply "ip rip authentication mode (mode)
Thanks!
Mike
