RE: changing default ethertype for 802.1q interfaces?

I can honestly say that I haven't ever tried changing any particular
protocols' ethertype value before. As I recall, there aren't commands that
have parameters where that can be specified (leading to the idea of
reprogrammiing the switch, or sing something different like
tunneling/vpls/xconnect/l2tv3/etc).

hi Scott,

I can change the ethertype on other vendors switches without writing new
code ;)
Anyways, I guess it's not possible as i've read quite some docs for this
already, but perhaps an SP guy knows the answer. Even if it's a no. :)

I have one tagged 802.1q 0x8100 link and i cannot do dual dot1q tags on this
link, because of some intermediate equipment....
So i would like to tag on a cisco with another ethertype to get through the
intermediate equipment.

Thanks and regards,
Wouter

That would be a lot of reprogramming and re-spinning of ASICs, but I'm sure
there's some method!

Wouldn't some version of L2 Tunneling or VPLS be more viable?

Scott

Hi,

I would like to configure the default ethertype of 802.1q interfaces to use
ethertype 0x9100 instead of 0x8100. I dont want to setup a dot1q tunnel but
i want to bypass an Extreme switch this way.
If anyone knows such a command i would be happy. :)

Thanks,
Wouter
