EIGRP distance command...

Has anyone else noticed that in EIGRP, when you use the form of the distance
command
that allows you to modify the distance of specific routes, from specific
neighbors, it only
affects internal EIGRP routes... it has no affect on external EIGRP routes?
Is there any way to change this behavior?
