That's going to very much depend on how you have/are building your 
LSPs.  The next-hop-self in the wrong place will very definitely affect 
the MPLS traffic flow through your network.
VPNv4 isn't techncially different than "regular" IPv4 routes.   So your 
thought process for why you'd need to or not need to do that is the 
same.  But presumably you've built your ISP with having reachability 
to/from all PE routers' loopbacks. 
Monitor your routes...  Look at your next-hop information and see if 
it's what you expect it to be!  If it's not...  Change it to something 
else!  Just be aware of whether it messes with your perceived traffic 
engineering.  :)
