Just FYI guys I did lab this up and it has nothing to do with the other side
not being configured. I was able to configure Cat1 with "channel-group 12
mode on" on the two interfaces connecting to Cat2. On Cat2 I only put the
channel-group command on one interface...interestingly enough, on Cat1 it
still shows both interfaces in the port channel, the port channel up, and
both with a status of "P." I actually would have expected that the 2nd link
would have not showed a "P" on Cat1. On Cat2, it just showed 1 link in the
bundle.
Just FYI Cat1 here is a 3550 and Cat2 is a 3560.
Cat1#sh run | beg 0/23
interface FastEthernet0/23
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 12 mode on
!
interface FastEthernet0/24
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 12 mode on
interface Port-channel12
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
end
Cat2(config-if)#do sh run | beg 0/23
interface FastEthernet0/23
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 12 mode on
!
interface FastEthernet0/24
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
!
interface Port-channel12
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
end
