Hello Ryan,
I have upgraded the switch to 12.2(52) - now it seems to be fixed. Before this version we had 12.2(50). I found a textfile where I stored the output, here it is:
SW1>
SW1>
SW1>ena
SW1#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
SW1(config)#line con 0
SW1(config-line)#vaca
SW1(config-line)#vacant-message #
Enter TEXT message. End with the character '#'
The funny thing is that my question mark is interpreted as an interactive CLI help, Look:
?
  LINE c banner-text c, where 'c' is a delimiting character
Anyway let's try to terminate the message.
#
Hey ! I want to terminate the message
#
#
And now I am leaving, I will put a character before the hash sign
and the switch gets crazy and it will do some memory dumps, then
it will reboot :-)
