You need a valid written to even log in to the CCIE lab scheduling
tool. I assume you know that much.
I took your question to mean "what happens if my written expires
between the time I log in to the scheduling tool to make the booking,
and the date I want to sit the lab exam?"
The policy states "Candidates must make an initial attempt of the CCIE
lab exam within 18 months of passing the CCIE written exam." but I
wonder how the scheduling tool handles the scenario you describe. It
wouldn't necessarily be fair to disallow a booking because the
candidate could re-sit the written and extend the validity period.
It's a good question so rather than speculate, I'm waiting for someone
to answer authoritatively.
Cheers,
Dale
