I haven't used an async modem in years but if I had to today (on Win7)
I'd use SecureCRT or ZOC - both commercial apps.

If it was a once-off or infrequent thing, and only basic functionality
was required, I'd use PuTTY and send AT commands to do the dialing
etc.

I have no doubt there are some decent freeware or shareware apps out
there though. Do let us know what the consensus is.

Hyperterminal was horrible.
