L2TPv3 is a layer 2 tunneling protocol and can be used to pass VLANs between layer 3 connected sites, I have configured it several times when I need the same IP subnet range to appear on two geographically (routed) separated sites.
It can be used to pass 802.1q header information so allowing the transport of VLAN information between sites which is very useful.

Subject: L2TPV3
Hi
Sorry for very basic question .. This is a new technology for me ..
I am reading L2TPV3 chapter from "MPLS on CIsco IOS" book ..
The configs ( static and dynamic L2TPV3 ) looks OK ...
But the very basic idea of L2TPV3 is not at all clear to me . What
special are we doing here ?
Can you tell me the use of where is it used to tunnel the pkts over
IP cloud (Non-MPLS cloud) .
I am looking for a real world case where L2TPV3 is used and how ?
How providers and clients (if at all) are making best out of this ?
Please shed some light on this
