My two cents (w/out my number mind you, 3rd and hopefully final
attempt sometime this summer)
1) I'm thinking it drops the packet. Best bet would be to test it
out with WireShark and see to be 100% sure.
2) Switch doesn't care which voice vlan or access vlan is configured.
If the numbers match it will forward it on. Case in point, I have 20
Cisco phones and a VG248 on a Cisco 3560 POE switch. Config as
follows
vlan 10
name Data
vlan 20
name Voice
interface FastEthernet0/1
switchport access vlan 10
switchport voice vlan 20
I plug my VG into that port and it doesn't work. Why, the VG doesn't
send any CDP info to the switch to have it *trunk* (I use that term
loosely as it's not officially a trunk).
So what did I do? I configured...
interface FastEthernet0/24
description TOR-VG224-01
switchport access vlan 20
switchport voice vlan 20
Works like a champ.
This is definitely the right forum to ask questions, however putting a
number on the end of your name comes with a higher salary and a higher
respect amongst us lowly CCXX's. It would definitely be my bad for
laughing rather then taking a chance and trying to help. I apologize
for that. At least he has the balls to ask, I'm still trying to
remember the OSI model. :P I'm assuming there's a good amount of
people on the list that have an idea but don't say anything because
they don't want to get shot down. And you are also correct, Narbik
knows a lot of stuff, but he doesn't know how to P-A-R-T-Y!!! :)
HTH!
