Recerting your CCIE carries the certification forward 2 years beyond your
expiration date. So, as an example, I earned my CCIE on April 22, 2010.
So, my recert date is April 22, 2012. I will be taking a written exam this
summer (actually probably two, including the CCIEW v2 beta.) If I pass it,
my certification will be good through April 22, 2014, not 2 years from
whenever I pass it. If I pass both this summer, my cert is still only good
through that time. You have to take the exam within the 2 year timeframe
before its expiration date. There's more info at
http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/ccie/recert/index.html.
