Don't get the nook color. It's the same as reading on your computer screen since it's backlit; it will make your eyes tired. Get something with e-ink instead.

The cheap wifi kindle has a web browser that you can read safari online with. The diagrams look fine too. If you're worried about that they have the large screen version.

If you're in the US the Staples retail stores have both the nook and kindle you can test out side by side.
