RSTP Doubt

Hi fellows,

I have a basic doubt in RSTP. How does two RSTP running switches detect that
they r connected as point to point links.?

How does switches detect their edge ports and also whether it is a point o
point segment or else its a shared segment between 5 switches.

Can anyone explain me the logic ?
