Hi,

Sounds like you're using Microsoft "Technology".

NetBEUI/NetBIOS communicates using computer names and MAC addresses. From
the application point of view, you are using Computer Names. The protocol
uses MAC broadcasts to resolve names to MAC addresses.

To test from a Windows 9x/NT/2000 machine:

1. Configure the names of your PCs
2. Start a Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> Command)
3. Type in net view \\remotename , where remotename is the name of the
remote computer.
4. If you have file shares set up etc you should see a list of these. If
communications aren't working, should get errors about path not found.

With regards to SRB - SRB revolves around the fact that NICs are smart and
Bridges are dumb. Hence, the Token Ring adapter running under Windows must
be able to support Source Route Bridging. I am not sure if this is
possible, consult the NIC manufacturer instructions.

Subject: emulating DLSW with NETBeui

Hi All,

I'm a bit confused (might be the hair color.) anyways, once I get two
computers running NetBeui - how do I make them communicate - ie.e
what types of commands or NetBios names must I setup on the computers. Is
there
any good links to help me with setting this up to learn more about DLSW?

Also, can I test source route translational bridging (SR/TLB) this way? I
have
the following setup, but I do not know how to test if it works, and I am
seeing no frames
forwarded:

R4 ---- Ethernet--- R1 ---- Token Ring --- R6---Token Ring --- R2 ---
Ethernet ---- R6

R6 is a SRB bridge. R1 and R2 are setup for SR/TLB. I can ping from R2 to
R1, so I know
that SRB is working fine across the Token Ring. But I wanted to test the
SR/TLB portion.
Any ideas how I could use NetBeui to do that? I'm just getting started on
the IBM
SR/TLB and DLSW stuff so any pointers to how to setup test labs would be
great. I've
read back through lots of emails on this list, but I still haven't figured
out how to set
up the NetBeui to properly test DLSW or SR/TLB.

another problem I am having, if I turn on debug source bridge on R2 and R1,
( I have also issued the command "no source bridge 3 transparent
fastswitch") I get no output to my screen. When I do a show source it still
shows local fastswitched under the Explorers part:

Local Interfaces: receive transmit
