That seemed to work. Everything came up just fine. I just don't like the
idea of having to reboot a router in the lab unless it is absolutley
necessary. Thanks for the help.

Ed,
I just recreated this problem in my lab between two routers.
One is
running 12.1.3 and the other 12.0.12. The problem was solved by
rebooting one of the routers or doing a 'clear appletalk interface e0'
on both routers. It did not seem to manifest itself when adding a 2nd
zone, only a 3rd and 4th. Here are the relevant configs:
r5:
interface Ethernet0
appletalk cable-range 500-510 504.191
appletalk zone r5zone
appletalk zone r2zone
appletalk zone extrazone
r2:
interface Ethernet0
appletalk cable-range 500-510 502.6
appletalk zone r5zone
appletalk zone r2zone
appletalk zone extrazone
When i added the last line on both routers, 'appletalk zone extrazone',
I received these errors:
'AppleTalk zone list incompatible with active internet'
Ethernet0: Appletalk state changed; restarting -> probing
Ethernet0: AppleTalk state changed; probing -> invalid config'
The first few lines on 'sh apple int e0' looked like this:
Ethernet0 is up, line protocol is up
AppleTalk node down, Port configuration error
I try to shut/noshut E0 on both sides but no luck. Again, when I
rebooted R2 everything came up fine.
When I tried to add a 4th zone, the exact same thing happened again.
This time a 'clear apple int e0' on both sides fixed the problem. Can
anyone confirm/deny this behavior? I know the unofficial policy with
appletalk is to reboot if it's not working, but I would try the clear
command first in the lab to save some time.
